Cedarville 3, Ursuline 0

In the Great Midwest Athletic Conference preseason poll, Cedarville was picked by seven head coaches to repeat as the conference champion. In Friday's (Oct. 4) conference opener, the Lady Jackets showed why with a 3-0 victory over the Arrows.

Set scores were 25-13, 25-17 and 25-16.

Freshmen Emily Adkinson and Makayla Windau as well as seniors Alex Leister and Maureen Kelly all had six kills while junior Molly Hilfinger and freshman Sammi Marcum both chipped in two kills for the Arrows. Cedarville's Amanda Bell recorded a match-high 12 kills while Abby Shelton and Hannah Wagner each contributed eight.

As a team, Cedarville hit .260 while the Arrows came in at a .060 clip. Hilfinger was credited with an assist on 20 of UC's 27 kills while Leister paced the defense with 12 digs.

Ursuline 3, Central State 0

Last year, the Arrows beat the Marauders in all three meetings. The two programs are scheduled to meet twice this year and after Friday's (Oct. 4) 3-0 Ursuline victory, the Arrows are halfway to completing another season sweep.

Set scores on Friday were 25-10, 25-10 and 25-8.

It was a total team effort as senior Maureen Kelly led the way with nine kills, one more than classmate Alex Leister. Freshman Emily Adkinson had six kills for the second straight match and freshman Makayla Windau and junior Brittany Kempf each had four. Junior setter Molly Hilfinger set everything up with 28 assists.

Defensively, Leister and junior defensive specialist Kelly Stenger both had seven digs.

The Arrows hit .364 as a team, their best output of the season, while the Marauders came in at -.141. Ursuline's 13 service aces were also a season high, two more than the 11 Arrow aces last Saturday (Sep. 28) against Purdue North Central University.
