SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Ursuline College volleyball team continued its recent hot streak with Tuesday's (Oct. 8) 3-1 win over Lake Erie College at Hathaway Brown School.
UC won the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-16, before Lake Erie took the third frame by seven. The resilient Arrows responded with a 25-17 fourth set win to clinch their ninth win of the year.
With the win, the Arrows improve to 9-7 overall and have now won six of their last eight matches. Lake Erie, fresh off a win over Lake Superior State on Saturday (Oct. 5), is now 1-11.
As a team, Ursuline hit .308 with 51 kills and just 15 errors in 117 chances. In the three set wins, the Arrows came in at .364, .350 and .324. In Lake Erie's lone set win, the Storm hit .412.
Senior Alex Leister led the charge with 14 kills and just four errors to finish at a .370 clip. After her, freshmen Emily Adkinson and Makayla Windau each had eight kills while freshman Sammi Marcum, junior Molly Hilfinger and senior Maureen Kelly all contributed seven.
Leister was also one of five Arrows to be credited with at least six digs. Junior Kelly Stenger had a team-high eight while sophomore Jaclyn Brandt, Hilfinger, Leister and Marcum all chipped in six.
Hilfinger dished out 41 assists, four off her career-high of 45 set against Marygrove on Sep. 26. It was, however, her highest output in a match that went just four sets. The seven kills left her one shy of her season-best, set on Saturday (Oct. 5) against Kentucky Wesleyan College.
Ursuline will return to Great Midwest Athletic Conference play this weekend when Alderson Broaddus University and Davis & Elkins College each pay a visit. The Arrows will host Alderson Broaddus on Friday (Oct. 11) at 6:00 p.m. at Hathaway Brown's Corrigan-Daniels Athletic Center before Saturday's (Oct. 12) "home" match. Saturday's contest against Davis & Elkins, which will also be at Hathaway Brown, will start at 1:00 p.m.
The Pizzazz on the Circle Live Stats will be available free of charge for both contests and Max Radigan will provide free play-by-play on Friday on the Ursuline College Sports Network.
